Original Medicare is a program through the US government. It includes Part A and Part B. Part A covers inpatient hospital coverage, skilled nursing, and hospice, as well as other services in specific situations. Part B covers doctor visits, durable medical equipment, and other outpatient care. There is no cap on out-of-pocket costs with original Medicare. That financial exposure is the main reason many choose to look to private plans offered by insurance companies to work alongside their Medicare. An insurance broker can help you understand the timeline for enrollment, the different types of plans available, and help you enroll in a plan.
